David Holt’s paintings involve subjects from botanical gardens, architecture, natural history, and antiquities collections. Painterly brushwork animates quirky, abbreviated forms and playful balances.
In addition to his recent shows at loop, Holt has had many solo and group shows in the US, including several in New York (Bowery Gallery, Painting Center, Atlantic Gallery) and university galleries (Georgetown, Harvard, William and Mary). He has been the recipient of a painting grant from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation and an artist residency at the Ragdale Foundation. An art professor and department chair for many years at Marymount College (of Fordham University) in New York, Holt now lives in Toronto where he teaches at Upper Canada College.
