Sung Ja Kim

My work examines various aspects of alienation or what I call the wilderness experiences of life.  Alienation typically originates in unexpected, disruptive events that shatter hope and can leave emotional scars, feelings of loneliness, abandonment, and despair.  This leads to a deep psychological, emotional and spiritual hunger for a vision of new ways to relate to ourselves and others.

Growing and maturing experiences are communicated in my work through images of miraculous plants that grow in parched ground - visions that can help us to cope effectively with unexpected, disruptive experiences
