curriculum vitae

Clothing is a second skin, serving as a protective barrier for our bodies and also creating a portrait of our identity and self-image. Our clothes tell stories about our life and our place in society within a given period. They are literally our psychic skins.

Using a variety of disciplines – photography, sculpture, needlework and installation – my work explores the essence of feminine identity. Items of clothing representing heightened femininity - such as the corset, the crinoline, the apron and the dress – become metaphors for a woman.

The sculptural qualities of feminine garments are emphasized by the use of non-traditional materials such as paper, maps, packaging labels, and mosquito mesh. My intent is to provoke the viewer to take a deeper look and consider the story of the woman that might wear such a garment. The absence of a body in much of my work heightens the sense of unease and loss.
